For Autumn Winter 2020 Erdem has worked closely with Robin Muir, curator of the“Bright Young Things” exhibition of Cecil Beaton’s early photography at the National Portrait Gallery.

Beaton was not born into the class that he would spend his life photographing. As a young man with a big vision, at home with a Kodak A3, he would create images and identities. With his sisters, he made do with bed sheets and tinfoil, billiard cues and brooms, pet birds and feather fans. The well-documented frivolity of the Bright Young Things often obscures the interesting social developments of the time: royalty mixed with bohemia; high society embraced the avant-garde; men dressed as women and women as men.
