WORLD OF INTERIORS, JULY 2024

A photographic series by Erdem Moralioglu, shot in India for World of Interiors.

Following Erdem's journey in India, his images capture the craft of Rajasthan's architecture from great palace arches and mausoleum gates to tiny shrine doors.

'It was the extraordinary colours in chalky tones that drew me to this particular doorway.

It leads into the spectacular Mehrangarh Fort, perched on a hilltop overlooking the city of Jodhpur.'

- Erdem Moralioglu MBE

’In one of Mehrangarh's outdoor corridors, I was struck by a vital part of Rajasthan's landscape' - the niches, used in daily prayer with lit incense, that pepper its walls. The left shrine is recognisably Shaivite from its trident symbol and dates to the tenth century; Mehrangarh's interiors echo the outer lotus-motif arches, so intricately picked out from pristine white walls. Seeing the silhouette of Jaisalmer Fort emerge from the desert was truly magical'.
